1 In Life/ Mommy Life

Update: 4 months & 26 months

You know you’re in for trouble when your PEDIATRICIAN (you know, the person who KNOWS about babies and sees them everyday) describes your child by saying, “He’s a mess!”

And he was totally right.

Baby N has still not really slept thru the night despite having a few nights where he made it 6 hours. Usually he’s up at 11:30, 2:30, 5:00 and then 6:30-ish. Sometimes I can get him to go back to sleep till 8 but that’s rare.

(A rare moment)

He also hates to nap (probably because he doesn’t want to miss out on anything). I’m lucky if he sleeps for 20 – 30 mins in the morning but usually that’s it until the afternoon when he will sleep 1 to 4 hours depending on if there is a screaming toddler nearby (just so you know, toddlers DO NOT understand what the word “whisper” means).

(NOT Whispering)

At his 4 month check-up the pediatrician also mentioned that he wiggles like a 6 month old. Uh…yeah. The kid had his head up the DAY he was born. He is consistently rolling to his belly now and has started army crawling. So now the REAL trouble begins since he can grab any number of Hot Wheels or tiny dinosaurs and ingest them at a moment’s notice.

(The look of terror)

In other news, my toddler also likes to SHARE – how nice, but no, the baby does not need a crayon/block/marble. E also enjoys lying next to him and then trying to roll over him. I’ve decided for N’s first birthday instead of making him the traditional “I’m ONE” shirt I’ll just make him one that says “I Survived My Brother!”.

(E totally crawled in there himself)

Baby N is much happier now that he can get around a little bit and once he masters sitting he’ll be thrilled. He’s happy as long as he’s in the action – sitting on someone’s lap watching what’s going on or in the carrier. He my “on the go” baby. Sometimes we run errands when we don’t need to because I know he will be good (also E loves to ride “in the silver car” i.e. – my car).

(Mmm…deliciousness)

I just started him on cereal with fruit. Normally I would have waited till 6 months like I did with E but after a day where I felt like all I did was nurse him, I thought I’d give it a try. It went AMAZINGLY well. Several times he grabbed the spoon and shoved it in his mouth, he’s a MUCH better eater than his big bro.

E has reached the “Question Everything” stage. Which means asking “What you doing Mommy?” twenty times in a row despite hearing the same answer every time. His other favorite thing is to ask “What’s this?” about his toy car/dinosaur/some object when HE KNOWS WHAT IT IS.

(Fun in the sun)

I think we’re going to try potty training over the long weekend. E hasn’t shown a TON of interest but I think if we took a more direct approach than asking him every once in a while if he needs to go then we may be able to make some progress…we shall see.

Both boys are starting school next week and we just met their teachers. I doubt either will have any problems adjusting since they’re both little social butterflies.

Beautiful….sleeping baby….loving big brother….you couldn’t ask for more. A picture is worth a thousand words….unless of course the picture is the “exception” rather than the rule. Perhaps we should get Nathan a tee that says, “I survived my big sis!” (or me “I survived 4 children!”)
