DIY Beaded Letter Sweater

How I created this super cute embellished sweater without spending a dime.

So I was scrolling the Instagram (yes, THE Instagram) and I saw this embellished letter sweater, which was super cute but also super sold out. Sadness. But also it was like $80 and since you know I’m cheap and crafty I decided to DIY one for myself.

I did a little googling for some inspo and here are some others I found, which are adorable but you know not exactly budget friendly.

But as I’ve learned when you have taste and time but not money you can make pretty much anything your little heart desires. The other reason to DIY anything is to be able to customize it so it’s totally unique. So sure I could have duped it directly but I like adding my own touch to anything I copy.

I already had a two for one pack of white sweatshirts from Walmart, that had been hanging out in my closet for a moment just like this. That’s TWO for $15…so $7.50 each.

I also had a box full of beads that predated our wedding, so like OLD but not SUPER OLD (which is more the 20 years specifically). I’ve always claimed to be a craft hoarder and it’s for moments like this. I realize not everyone does this but it would only take a few bags of beads.

This is why we save things for 100 years!

I just made a template of the letters I wanted and cut them out on some felt. Then I glued and glued. This is a low skill craft. It would be great to do with kids. You could always buy pre-made letter patches on Etsy if you weren’t keen on making your own.

Once the letters dried I glued them on my sweatshirt (okay truthfully I taped them on to make sure I liked where there were but then I glued them on). Since I’m extra I added a blanket stitch around the edge to secure them.

Now I’ll be taking my $80 I saved and buying more sweatshirts and beads because I just love the way this turned out! What would your custom sweatshirt say?
