DIY: Heart Hairclip
I created this cute little rhinestone heart hairclip one evening – it’s a fun little project that could also be used as a pin. Mine is really big (because I’m not afraid of obnoxiously large accessories).
STEP 1: CREATE YOUR TEMPLATE
I did mine grade-school style and cut half a heart out of a sheet of folded paper. Then I traced it on to some heavy paper I had. This is going to be the base for the clip.
STEP 2: GLUE ON YOUR BACKING FABRIC
I had some red vinyl material (from who-knows-what) but felt would work as well. Just something that will fill in any gaps between the beads. I just glued my cut out heart to it and cut it out and then flipped it over to do the same – so BOTH sides will have material on them.
STEP 3: GLUE ON RHINESTONES
I picked stones that matched my backing material. Also use fabric glue rather than hot glue or other quick drying glue because you’ll need to adjust the stones a bit to get them to fit right. If they’re already dry then you have less flexibility.
STEP 4: ATTACH A FABRIC LOOP
I like being able to use things in more than one way so I glued a piece of ribbon to the back so that I could insert a safety pin, hair clip or a piece of ribbon to wear it as a headband. Also it let me position the clip so that I could wear it on either side of my head.
